Developing services could add costs

The Department of Health is entering a period of reflection, as it decides how best to pay for services in the future.

Minister Eddie Teare says nothing has been set in stone as yet, but stresses it will become increasingly difficult to provide care to an increasingly aged population without more money.

The DHSS has held a series of meetings to gauge the reaction of the public to certain ideas about how to generate extra funding.

Currently ?5000 per head of population is going into the DHSS and Mr Teare says the public expects it to be spent wisely:
