Cut off at the Tower

by isleofman.com 5th August 2008
The Tower of Refuge, built in 1832 to save lives at sea, was the scene of a rescue last night.

Coastguard officers had to carry two young people back to shore after the incoming tide cut them off.

23 people were on Conister rock when the tide turned. Nineteen got off unassisted, two were escorted in and the other two carried in.

The warning is that, on top of this sort of problem, the tower is currently a building site with scaffolding in place as the edifice is renovated.
