Manx Telecom workers have voted overwhelmingly to strike over pay.
The Communications Workers Union says 80 per cent support industrial action following a 4.1 per cent pay offer this year.
In total, 200 staff from non-management grades were balloted, and the CWU says there was a high turnout of staff to vote.
A statement from the union says with inflation running at 6.5 per cent, the offer simply isn’t good enough.
Jason Roberts reports (audio file attached):
The CWU accuses Manx Telecom of making an effective pay cut for its employees this year, and says it won’t settle for anything less than an increase in take-home pay.
Union leaders say they want more talks with management but warn that they have a clear mandate for a strike.
If no agreement is reached, the union says engineers, operators, clerical and billing staff, as well as shop staff, could walk out at the end of next week.
It’s still unclear what implications this could have for the company’s network.
