Manx Telecom workers are to walk out next Friday (August 22) in a row over pay.
The Communications Workers Union held a meeting on the Island last night (Wednesday) to decide what steps to take following a vote for industrial action.
A spokesman for the CWU said feelings at the meeting were high and it was decided to hold a one-day strike a week on Friday.
As well as that, there’ll be an overtime ban affecting all non-management grades.
Jason Roberts reports (audio file attached):
The union says it will still continue to provide emergency cover for the Island’s 999 lines, but workers will down tools on Friday.
Manx Telecom has been given notice of the industrial action today and a response from the company is expected later.
Staff are unhappy about a 4.1 per cent pay offer made earlier this year because inflation on the Island is currently running at 6.5 per cent.
The overtime ban will remain in place until an agreement is reached with MT management.
