It's the biggest day in Manx sporting history.
That's the claim of Team Isle of Man cycling manager Gary Hinds as Mark Cavendish bids for Olympic glory in Beijing.
The 23 year old Laxey rider and team-mate Bradley Wiggins are favourites to take gold in the Madison event at the Laoshan velodrome.
Gary says it's a massive day for Mark and the Island:
Cav will be watched this morning (Tues) by his mother Adele and fiance Melissa, along with thousands here on the Island following the event on television. The 50 kilometre event starts at around 10.30 (BST) in China.
Meanwhile, Cavendish is to receive the honorary freedom of the Borough of Douglas.
The news was conferred at a special meeting yesterday (Monday), in recognition of Cavendish’s outstanding achievements and for his service as an ambassador for the Isle of Man.
Arrangements will be made in due course for the formal presentation of a commemorative address.
