ASBO for Ramsey youth

by isleofman.com 21st August 2008
A Ramsey youth who committed a string of offences has been given a two year ASBO.

17 year old Callum Thomas Radcliffe, of North Shore Road, appeared for sentence after admitting arson, theft, being drunk in a public place, driving without a licence or insurance and burglary with intent to steal from the Co-Op in Parliament Street.

The defendant and Jake Ford, who's already been dealt with at another court, stole a car then tried to burn it, damaging it extensively.

His advocate said Radcliffe had no reason to commit the offences, which all took place between June 27th and July 25th this year, adding that he was drunk when he smashed the door of the Co-Op.

She said all he wanted to do now was get back to work and get on with his life and could borrow money to pay the compensation.

In a letter to the court Inspector Derek Flint said an ASBO was a positive way of dealing with the defendant and would help keep him out of trouble.

Deputy High Bailiff Montgomery said it was a very refreshing attitude taken by the Inspector and it was now clear Radcliffe was motivated to change.

The ASBO states he mustn't enter licenced premises, buy alcohol or consume it in public places, mustn't associate with Jake Ford or enter any part of Ballure Glen.

He must also pay ?750 compensation for the damage to the car.
