Tomorrow’s (Friday) planned Manx Telecom strike has been called off.
Workers were due to strike after being offered a 4.1 per cent pay hike, below the current rate of inflation which stands at 6.5 per cent.
However, the industrial action along with a planned overtime ban has been suspended.
It follows what are described as successful talks between the Communications Workers Union and Telecom.
Proposed new pay terms and conditions have been negotiated and staff will be balloted a week today.
Telecom managing director, Chris Hall, says he’s pleased a new proposal’s on the table and that reaching a negotiated settlement is the best route for everyone involved.
Meanwhile, CWU deputy general secretary, Andy Kerr, said re-opening the talks is a positive step and strike action was always the last resort.
