MT ballot next week

by isleofman.com 22nd August 2008
There’s hope strike action by Manx Telecom workers can be avoided.

Today’s (Fri) planned industrial action, along with an overtime ban, was suspended after talks between the Communications Workers Union and Manx Telecom.

Proposed new pay terms and conditions have been negotiated and staff will now be balloted next Thursday.

Workers had been due to strike after being offered a 4.1% pay rise, below the current rate of inflation.

MT Managing Director, Chris Hall (pictured), says he’s pleased a new proposal’s on the table, a view welcomed by CWU deputy general secretary, Andy Kerr, who said re-opening the talks is a positive step and strike action was always the last resort.
