Slow uptake for Beachwatch

by isleofman.com 27th August 2008
Just one beach on the Isle of Man has registered so far for this year's Marine Conservation Society's Beachwatch litter survey and clean-up.

While there are miles of wonderful coastline not all of it is as clean as it could be and looks unsightly and poses a threat to marine wildlife.

The society reports a 96.5 per cent increase in the amount of beach litter since 1994 with major sources being rubbish from the general public, sanitary waste, shipping and fishing litter.

Litter Project Co-ordinator for the Society, Emma Snowden, says she hopes more people on the Island will get involved with the clean-up initiative (audio file attached):

If you want to get involved you can ring Emma on 01989 567807.
