Two areas off the Isle of Man have been earmarked by Ireland as possible places to store carbon emissions from power stations.
A geological study is due to be published by Irish energy minister Eamon Ryan (pictured) on September 17.
The report highlights a number of areas which could hold liquified or gaseous carbon, including the Peel Basin.
More detailed work needs to be done, but another area identified is the Morecambe Bay gas field, off the Island’s east coast.
A detailed financial study estimates it will be at least 2020 before it’s economically viable for power stations to use the storage technology.
