Ubuntu moves to new version

by isleofman.com 30th August 2008
The Island’s answer to Microsoft Windows will release a new version in less than two months time.

Ubuntu Linux, produced by Douglas-based Canonical Software, will move to version number 8.1 in October.

In keeping with previous versions, it’ll have a silly animal codename – in the past they’ve included Hardy Heron and Gutsy Gibbon.

8.1 will be known as Intrepid Ibex and will focus on mobility to compete in the ultra-portable market.

Some of the key areas of improvement for Intrepid Ibex will be faster boot times and much-improved 3G connection support.
