No TV coverage of MGP 2008

by isleofman.com 1st September 2008
Future video and DVD coverage of events like the Manx Grand Prix and the Southern Hundred races could be in jeopardy after a deal between the Department of Tourism and Leisure and local TV production company Greenlight Television to shoot THIS year's events fell through.

Whilst TT sales can be measured in tens of thousands of copies, the MGP only sells a few hundred copies to the more hardcore and specialist road racing fans, so historically the DTL has contributed to the cost of covering the races.

But that Government support was withdrawn this year. Greenlight Television is currently tendering for a new TT contract, and Director Richard Nicholls says that in the past his company has committed to the MGP and Southern on the back of the main event.

Talking to Stuart Peters on this morning's Mandate, he said he simply doesn't know if his company will cover MGP and Southern races in the future:
