MHK calls for renewable energy

Rushen MHK Phil Gawne says we need to start planning NOW if we're to have any chance of becoming self-sufficient in energy by 2020.

He gave a speech at the Celtic Congress in Aberystwyth recently which floated the concept that - by harnessing wind and wave power and building more efficient homes - the Isle of Man could become a net EXPORTER of energy within a dozen years.

Mr Gawne says that with runaway oil, gas and electricity prices likely to continue for the foreseeable future, Tynwald needs to get fully behind the aim of reducing our 96% reliance on imported energy:
