Port Erin Bowling Club has been told to take down floodlights after losing a planning appeal.
The club, which has greens in Breagle Glen in St Mary’s Road, appealed after being told it couldn’t keep its ?12,000 lottery-funded lighting system.
Nearby neighbours complained about their brightness and said the 24-foot masts they were mounted on were intrusive.
But the club said the masts couldn’t be taken down and stored when not in use.
Planning inspector John Turner said the lights were causing unacceptable nuisance to those living nearby.
He said because it wasn’t possible to remove the lamps when they weren’t being used, the appeal should be dismissed.
DoLGE Minister John Shimmin agreed, and refused retrospective planning permission for the lighting system.
He has given the club until October 2 to take down the masts or face enforcement action.
