Dedicated and secure video links between Douglas Courthouse and the new prison at Jurby are fully-operational and have the potential to save substantial amounts of time and money as part of the legal process.
Similar technology is used routinely in the UK, although in the Isle of Man it's only allowed in very basic court procedures like 'further remand' and 'bail application' hearings.
It can also be used by advocates who need to talk privately to their clients. There are two 'Video Courts' at the prison, which can connect to either courtrooms or dedicated interview rooms within the courthouse building.
