Assurances on pensions reform

The Chief Minister has repeated assurances that no final decisions have been taken on the future of public service pensions – and there’ll be full consultation with staff before any changes are introduced.

The Government initiated an external review of public service pensions last year – in response to recommendations from a Tynwald Select Committee – and Mr Brown (pictured, left) says the aim is to unify the 19 different government pension schemes.

Concerns from existing scheme members include worries pensions may not be as good in the future, with fears of a possible increase in pension age and decrease in benefits.

MHK David Cretney (pictured, right), who’s raised concerns and says he and the Manx Labour Party will continue to support staff, has welcomed the news:
