Road works taking 'too long'

by isleofman.com 8th September 2008
The time taken to reconstruct the main road leading into Castletown has been branded ‘unnecessary’ by a town commissioner.

The second phase of maintenance work between Ronaldsway Airport’s south roundabout and Alexandra Bridge in Castletown is underway and will take 24 weeks to complete.

However, Colin Leather is concerned at that length of time for a relatively short stretch of road, particularly with schools re-opening tomorrow (Tuesday).

His comments were supported by colleagues including Carol Edge who said if the work was on the TT course it would have been completed much quicker.

Alwyn Collister acknowledged Manx Telecom and the Manx Electricity Authority were using the opportunity to carry out work at the same time as Transport officials but added the time delay to traffic lights was not easing the congestion.
