Tough decisions needed on pensions

Tough decisions on public sector pensions must be made - however unwelcome they may be.

That view from an independent advisor, after health workers raised serious concerns about a review of their pensions.

Health unions are opposed to a range of proposals in a consultants' report.

They include raising the retirement age, increasing contributions and possibly reducing pension benefits.

Despite the government insisting nothing's been decided yet - the Isle of Man Medical Society has warned the changes could 'destroy' the health service - and cause staff to leave 'in droves'.

Alan Blythe from Blythe Financial in Douglas says compared to the private sector, health workers still have very good pension prospects (audio file attached):
