The Department of Agriculture is defending its position over an American Pit Bull Terrier in the Isle of Man which faces being put down.
The dog has been on the Island for five years, but under the Wild Animals Restriction on Importation Act of 1980, it is illegal for the breed to be owned here.
Officials at the department found out about Champ in June and since then he has been kept at boarding kennels.
Attempts are being made to try and find him an new home in Eire where it is legal to keep the breed.
However, if suitable accommodation can't be found within the next few days he will have to be destroyed.
The animal hasn't attacked anyone or been involved in any incidents, but DAFF member David Callioster, MLC (pictured), says it's not a breed that can be trusted 100 per cent.
He says the department has a duty to protect the public, and time is running out for Champ:
