Incorrect advice claim in Pit Bull row

by isleofman.com 10th September 2008
The owner of an American Pit Bull Terrier which faces being put down claims the Department of Agriculture issued incorrect advice regarding the licencing of the animals in the Isle of Man.

Under the Wild Animals Restriction on Importation Act of 1980, it is illegal for the breed to be owned here, and if a new home can't be found for Champ he will be destroyed.

However, Champ's current owner, Sarah Kneen, says the original advice from the government was that it was OK for him to be here (audio file attached):

Champ was brought to the Island five years ago, but only came to the department's attention in June. Since then he has been in the department's care. Attempts have been made to find him another home in Eire, where the breed is legal, so far without success.

Sarah Kneen was talking to John Hines on Mandate.
