Hunger strike ends

by isleofman.com 12th September 2008
The prisoner who has been on hunger strike at the jail in Jurby has started eating again.

It hasn't been officially confirmed but it's understood the inmate refusing meals was gymnastics coach Harold Volante.

The 62 year-old was jailed for indecent assault last week after an appeal determined his original sentence had been too lenient.

He was sent to prison last Friday and was reported to have stopped eating, although he was taking fluids and there was no concern about his condition.

A Home Affairs statement says 'the inmate has since settled well into the prison routines'.
