A big air and sea search off the Calf of Man on Friday night had a surprise outcome.
A group of MHKs on the Calf raised the alarm, after apparently spotting red distress flares from what they thought was a vessel in distress.
The Port St Mary and Port Erin lifeboats were launched - a helicopter scrambled from Dublin - and shipping in the area joined the search.
But all attempts by the Liverpool coastguard to pinpoint the emergency drew a blank until it became clear the lights the party on the Calf had spotted were aircraft waiting to land in Dublin!
