Man rescued from Douglas bay

A major search involving Douglas Coastguard Rescue Team, Douglas Lifeboat, a RAF Helicopter from RAF Valley and police was launched in the early hours of this morning (Sunday) when a man was reported missing in Douglas Bay.

The Coastguard says the incident could easily have been a tragedy.

Officers heard shouts for help and were able to locate the man and direct the lifeboat. He was recovered from the water and landed on the Victoria Pier just after four o’clock this morning where he was checked over by paramedics.

The helicopter was then stood down as it was approaching Douglas.

Coastguard Station Officer David Keggin said the man had been in the water for over an hour (audio file attached):
