Poor summer for horse tram service

It's been another bad year for the horse trams in Douglas, with a fifth fewer people using them than in 2007.

Final figures are still being compiled, but a meeting next week is likely to be told losses were even greater than last year.

It has been confirmed around 34,000 journeys were taken, compared with 44,000 in 2007.

It will be a blow for Douglas Corporation, after it tried to reduce losses by halving the number of services.

Councillor Stephen Pitts says passenger figures were poor all summer (audio file attached):
