Government expert backs clean-ups

If you love the Island's beaches, but wish they weren't so littered, there's a chance this weekend to do something about it.

The Manx Wildlife Trust is organising a blitz, as part of beachwatch 2008.

Volunteers will be issued with bags, gloves and plenty of encouragement to rid the shores of debris, from cans and bottles left by locals, to shipping waste washed ashore by the tide.

On Saturday the beach from Hango Hill to Derbyhaven will be cleared and on Sunday, in the north, a stretch of beach from the Grand Island Hotel will be targeted.
