Kelly thwarts champions

by isleofman.com 22nd September 2008
Josh Kelly announced his arrival at Rushen United with a goal to deny the champions on Saturday.

The summer signing from Colby netted a second half equaliser to earn the southerners a 1-1 draw at St George’s, who had led at half-time through a Chris Feeney goal.

The result ended St George’s 100 per cent start to the season and also saw them leapfrogged at the top of the Sure Mobile Premier League by Peel and St Mary’s.

The westerners moved to the summit with a 5-1 home win over Corinthians – courtesy of Johnny Myers (two), Marc Kelly (two) and Nigel Shimmin.

Josh Ridings scored for Corinthians in a close first half.

And a dominant first half by St Mary’s allowed them to run out comfortable winners by the same scoreline at home to Union Mills.

Marc Priestnal (two), Steven Priestnal, Martin Reilly and Liam Cowin were on target as the Saints went on the rampage with Danny McMahon the Millers’ marksman.

Jamie Moffitt notched a late equaliser to earn Michael a 1-1 home draw with Gymns, whose goal was scored by David Reece, while Old Boys gained an impressive 4-0 win at Ayre United to bounce back from a surprise defeat to Colby.

Dean France, Callum Stewart and Jamie Skilen (two) were the scorers.

In the remaining game, another goal from Justin Hawley, this time from the penalty spot, and a Lee Cowley goal secured Laxey a 2-1 home win over Ramsey, for whom Ashley Webster replied.
