A small modification to a Manx2.com plane could have prevented its cargo door popping open during flight, says the Air Accident Investigation Branch.
The L-410 turboprop was flying from Belfast City airport to Ronaldsway in April when a nose baggage door opened a few minutes into the flight.
The flight crew reduced speed but decided to continue because the aircraft was still stable.
Nobody was injured during the incident, and the aircraft underwent a runway inspection after it landed safely.
The Air Accident Investigation Branch report says the aircraft was given an approach to Ronaldsway which minimised any risk from the open door.
It eventually landed safely but one piece of luggage was missing, which the captain said could have been mislaid in Belfast.
The AAIB says there were no defects in the locking mechanism, and the latch had appeared to be properly closed before take off.
The report adds a modification is available to indicate an unlatched door, but it wasn’t fitted on the aircraft involved.
