Decision expected about Border TV

by isleofman.com 24th September 2008
A decision is expected this week about the television station which covers Manx news.

The future of Border TV has been in the balance for months.

The Broadcast industry regulator Ofcom is due to deliver its verdict on the moves by ITV to save cash by combining the Border region with Tyne Tees.

The suggestion has faced vocal opposition in Cumbria, southern Scotland and here in the Isle of Man.

In particular, there’s been a campaign to save the Lookaround programme, which is Britain’s most-watched regional news programme.

A recently leaked report suggested the programme would be saved, but could be moved from its current home and produced outside the region.

Following this week’s announcement, a final decision on Lookaround’s future will be made early next year.
