Island unaffected by rumours

It's business as usual at the Isle of Man branch of Bradford and Bingley, despite rumours the firm is on the brink of collapse.

About 400 employees are being made redundant in the United Kingdom as the firm struggles with the credit crunch.

The company posted losses of more than ?26 million in the first half of the year, and is closing its Borehamwood mortgage processing centre in Hertfordshire.

However, Manx Radio has been told operations in the Isle of Man will not be affected.

Bradford and Bingley spokesman Tony McGarahan says it's all down to the dire state of the UK's housing market:
