The Isle of Man is being urged to go pink this October in support of a leading breast cancer charity.

As part of the annual international health campaign, Breakthrough Breast Cancer is launching the 'Talk TLC' Campaign, urging women to talk, touch, look and check.

Various events will be taking place across the Island over the next month to promote the message.

Every year in the United Kingdom 46,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer.

On the Island women aged between 50 and 70 are invited for regular breast screening, with the aim of detecting problems as soon as possible to give the best chance of survival.

Chair of Breakthrough Isle of Man Jan Brooks (pictured), herself a breast cancer survivor, says too many people are reluctant to check themselves in case they do find a problem: "I think there is still the attitude that it's better not to know, within some people. Certainly Breakthrough have done a recent survey and they found out of 2,000 women in the age group 18 to 64, that only 35 per cent of women checked their breasts regularly. So there is quite a percentage of women who don't want to know, whereas it is so important to know and to go and seek help if you find anything."
