Music marathon boost for Walmsley family

by isleofman.com 1st October 2008
A Port Erin man seriously injured in a road accident will be able to see his family more often, thanks to the generosity of the Manx public.

More than ?3,700 was raised at a 12 hour music marathon at The Haven pub, where some of the Island's top bands got together at the weekend.

Thirty year old Chris Walmsley remains in a neurological hospital in Bury nearly two years after the accident.

The music extravaganza, coupled with a car boot sale, raised money towards the cost of his family visiting him.

Chris's mum Carol, is thanking those who supported the event. She told Manx Radio: "We're having to find the money and although we do get some assistance it's difficult, because things like council tax and gas bills hit us. We are running two houses, as well as having to cover fuel costs getting backwards and forwards.

"We just need the funds to keep it going because it's so important for Chris to see us so regularly. Nothing can buy that smile when he sees you, it's just fantastic."
