Mixed September weather

Despite a welcome break from a summer of almost continuous rain, last month featured the second wettest September day on record.

38.77mm of rain fell on September 5, a figure beaten only by September 3, 24 years ago when 48 millimetres was recorded.

Sunshine was below average with 125.7 hours during the month, with the sunniest day being September 23.

Temperatures were above the long term mean with the 21st seeing a figure of 18.3c and the strongest winds were recorded on the 9th with a gust of 47 mph at the airport.

There were no frosts recorded during the month.
