A North Douglas MHK says the government should start calling in favours from its friends across the Irish Sea.
John Houghton says the Isle of Man has allies who could help it fight the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the reciprocal health agreement.
The withdrawal means Island residents will be billed for emergency hospital stays, and the cost of repatriation following accidents or illness, probably from 2010.
Mr Houghton says the Island should flex its muscles and recruit more people to help put its point across. He told Manx Radio:
"We need to use all of those people who we are meant to have in influential positions in the United Kingdom. We invite many people from influential areas over for our Tynwald Day each year.
"It's time to call in some favours and get some cages rattled down there, because if they can serve this one us they can do anything else they wish on us, which we know they can but they musn't."
