Customers awaiting news

Isle of Man customers of the Icelandic investment bank Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander are awaiting news, after the company ceased trading in the United Kingdom today.

The UK Treasury confirmed the closure this morning, and the transfer of Kaupthing's deposit business - Kaupthing Edge - to the Dutch bank, ING.

Kaupthing Edge will hand over 160,000 customers and ?2.5 billion of savings.

Manx Radio understands there will be no comment from Kaupthing in the Isle of Man until the conclusion of a board meeting this afternoon.

Kaupthing's office in Douglas remains open for business.
