Praise for Island education

by isleofman.com 9th October 2008
Headteachers in the Isle of Man have received a glowing endorsement from the body which represents them.

The local branch of the National Association of Head Teachers held its annual meeting at Scoill Ree Gorree in Ramsey.

General secretary Mick Brookes (pictured) says the Island is ahead of many regions of the United Kingdom:

"I think the credit to the Island is that the education system over here is a lot more buoyant (and) there seems to be a real conversation between school leadership, our members and the directorate.

"There is some envy, I think, from my colleagues in England about, for instance, accountability systems that are built on a positive view of what schools are doing.

"I think educational standards and attainments in the Isle of Man compare very well with the rest of the UK."
