Record number of lifeboat rescues

Lifeboat crews in the Isle of Man have rescued a record number of people in the first six months of the year.

The figure of 56 is more than double that of the same period last year.

Port St Mary Lifeboat Station Manager Alec Maddrell says a lot of the callouts were to help vessels with engine failures and other mechanical problems.

But he believes the rise has also been down to the bad weather we've had (audio file attached):
