Drug trafficking threat outlined

Drug trafficking remains a serious threat to the Isle of Man - but the authorities are ahead of the game in their approach to combatting the problem.

The latest figures show drugs seizures are UP - there were 276 drugs offences last year, an increase of 26 on the previous year.

The slight rise in the detection rate is being put down to a greater police focus on drugs.

Chief Constable Mike Langdon will present his Annual Report to Tynwald next week.

He says targetting traffickers and the Island's tough sentencing for those caught, are key weapons (audio file attached):
