MHK's questions stay on paper

by isleofman.com 20th October 2008
A Douglas MHK is unapologetic after tabling questions about the Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander affair for tomorrow's sitting of Tynwald.

Liberal Vannin leader Peter Karran has withdrawn his questions, and Treasury Minister Allan Bell says at this point such inquiries will only increase his department's workload as it tries to resolve the situation.

But North Douglas member Bill Henderson (pictured) says his items will stay on the paper.

He says it’s important for the government to answer some members’ queries in the open. He told Manx Radio:

"The Treasury Minister and Chief Minister have got to stand up and tell us what they know.

"I know we are being fobbed off with 'things change hourly, they are changing by the minute' but people need to know what the government know, as at the point of the question.

"People need some sort of reassurance that everything that's possible is being done, and we do need to have a look in the background of this to see that our own affairs were in order, which I believe they were."
