Hospice fears for missing million

by isleofman.com 21st October 2008
There are fears the Isle of Man Hospice could have lost a substantial sum of money, in the collapse of Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander.

Officials are trying to trace ?1 million they had with the Icelandic bank.

The money was transferred out of a reserve fund but failed to arrive at its destination.

Staff say services will not be jeopardised and chief executive of Hospice Isle of Man Margaret Simpson is optimistic the money hasn't totally disappeared. She told Manx Radio:

"I'm hoping that because the Isle of Man government is currently working with its UK counterpart that we will be able to find out more in the next few weeks.

"I am aware that the Isle of Man government is trying to put in place procedures to ensure that the funds are secured and they are secured for all charities and organisations including hospice.

"I think we just have to put our faith in the process and hope that we will get the money back."
