MLC plans election rule change

A bid is to be made to force members of the Legislative Council to resign before seeking election to the House of Keys.

MLC David Callister (pictured) has confirmed his intention to bring forward legislation, but says he won't be doing so for some time.

There is currently no statutory obligation requiring MLCs to resign before standing for the Keys.

However, with major international issues before Tynwald, Mr Callister admits the timing isn’t right to deflect members' attention to domestic matters (audio file attached):
