Accidental death verdict after car park fall

by isleofman.com 30th October 2008
An inquest has heard how a woman in a distressed state lost her balance and accidentally fell to her death from the second floor of the car park in Queen's Street, Douglas.

Coroner Michael Moyle heard 40 year-old Jody Forsythe had been drinking heavily and had gone missing following a row with a close member of her family earlier in the evening of August 20.

The relative had expressed concern for her well being, following what were described as "previous incidents".

At about 11pm two resident of nearby flats went to the car park, having become increasingly concerned about shouting coming from the area. As one of them approached Mrs Forsythe she fell, and died in hospital of her injuries two days later.

Mr Moyle said that, in her intoxicated state, Mrs Forsythe had taken up a dangerous position. She hadn't realised the risks and it wouldn't have taken much for her to lose her balance.

There was no deliberate, clear and unambiguous evidence of self harm harm, so the verdict was accidental death.
