Ballcain dispute settled out of court

by isleofman.com 30th October 2008
A long-running dispute between former chief minister Richard Corkill (pictured) and his wife Julie, and a local building firm has been settled out of court.

Colin Moore and Will Kelly, trading as GC Construction, launched a civil action against the Corkills, claiming their firm was owed ?102,000 for work carried out at their then holiday cottage development at Ballacain in Onchan.

Mr and Mrs Corkill then submitted a ?90,000 counter-claim, saying they were overcharged by the builders.

Mr Moore said he had withdrawn from the case and Mr Kelly had accepted the ?28,000 settlement in the interests of his health.

He told Manx Radio he had made the decision reluctantly (audio file attached):

The Corkills have declined to comment on the matter.
