Mobile phone warning to drivers

by isleofman.com 30th October 2008
'Operation Hands Free' has been launched by the Island’s road safety unit and the police.

It’s warning the public the police are now looking to prosecute any motorists caught using their mobile phone while driving.

Road safety manager, Gordon Edwards (pictured) says the message is simple - divert your phone to voicemail and give driving your full attention.

Last year, 54 road traffic accidents in the Isle of Man were caused by people being distracted behind the wheel.

You can be fined up to ?1,000 for using a mobile phone in such circumstances.
