MHK wants change in housing law

The politician in charge of housing in the Isle of Man wants a change in the law in relation to the allocation of local authority homes.

Juan Watterson, MHK, has been speaking as the Department of Local Government celebrates allocating its 1,000th first time buyer property.

There are 1,100 people on the waiting list for such accommodation, some of whom would qualify for local authority houses.

However, as things stand there is no requirement for occupants to move out of local authority homes even if they could afford to do so.
