Geordies close gap; Reilly treble

by isleofman.com 3rd November 2008
Reigning champions St George’s were given a scare by newly promoted Colby before moving within two points of the Sure Mobile Premier League summit.

They triumphed 4-3 at home on Saturday to close the gap on leaders Peel.

Colby deserve much credit for their efforts and were always in the hunt, courtesy of goals from Chris McKenna, Martin Moore and Craig Gelling.

However, the Geordies ran out winners, thanks to goals from Chris Bass junior (two), Neil Brogan and Callum Morrissey.

St Mary's are also on their heels after a 3-1 win at Michael.

And there was no doubting the star of the show as Martin Reilly grabbed a hat-trick at Balleira Road.

Rushen won the game of the day with a 2-0 home win against Old Boys, thanks to a goal in each half from Tom Craine and a Josh Kelly penalty.

Lee Cowley scored the only goal of the game as Laxey edged out spirited Ayre United at Glen Road.

An Ashley Webster inspired Ramsey gained the result of the day with a 4-1 thrashing of Union Mills at Ballacloan to consolidate their mid-table status.

Webster’s treble and a Steven Cleator goal heaped misery on the Millers, who were level at 1-1 at the break through Sam Cain.

Gymns leapfrogged Corinthians to move off the bottom with a 4-2 win in the battle of the basement.

Jamie Stoy and John Coppell were the Corinthians scorers.
