Firefighters tackle blazes

by isleofman.com 3rd November 2008
A man was taken to hospital after a fire in Willaston in the early hours of this morning (Sunday).

Fire crews were called to a flat at around 2am after a neighbour heard a smoke alarm.

The occupant had left food cooking unattended on a stove.

The fire was put out and the man treated by paramedics before being taken to Nobles Hospital where he spent the night.

Earlier, just after midnight, a fire broke out at a house in Tromode Park in Douglas.

Crews were at the scene for just under two hours to tackle the blaze, which started in the void between the ceiling and the first floor.

They extinguished the fire by damping down and cutting away the burnt material. The first floor of the house was smoke-logged and had to be cleared.

No-one was hurt.
