Christian hopes scheme goes Island-wide

by isleofman.com 3rd November 2008
The chairman of Douglas Town Council's Policy and Resources Committee is delighted the Island's first large scale kerbside recycling scheme is finally under way.

On the day the first collections of materials for recycling were made in Onchan, David Christian (pictured) appealed to all those taking part to make the initiative a success.

He told Manx Radio:

"Sometimes we are a bit slow to take up initiatives on the Island, but I think this has been so long in the pipeline, and has been talked about on so many occasions, that hopefully people will recognise that we all need to play our part, we do need to recycle and I think this is the way forward.

"Obviously the rest of the Island is going to be watching the Douglas, Braddan and Onchan scheme, so it's very important for the Corporation that we do get it right, that we prove to government that the people do support it, and then hopefully we will see it rolled out across the Island."
