Chief Minister Tony Brown called for "an urgent meeting" with the United Kingdom government, as soon as he heard yesterday evening's remarks by the UK chancellor to a Treasury Select Committee in London.
Answering questions about the collapse of Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander Isle of Man, Alistair Darling said his government would be taking "a long, hard look" at the Isle of Man's status as a tax haven.
In the House of Keys this morning, Mr Brown said the chancellor's comments were "to say the least, most unfortunate".
He went on:
"They were ill informed and gave a wrong impression about the situation of the Isle of Man, and also gave no recognition to our constitutional relationship with the British Crown."
