A leading trade unionist is dismissing as "ignorance" remarks made by the United Kingdom chancellor to a Treasury committee in London, earlier this week.
President of the Trades Union Council in the Isle of Man Bernard Moffatt is defending the Island in the face of the unexpected attack from Alistair Darling.
Among other things, Mr Darling said the UK government should take a "long hard look" at the Isle of Man's status as a tax haven.
Mr Moffatt told Manx Radio:
"There seems to be a perception among people in the Labour Movement in the UK that on these off-shore islands, these tax havens as they put it, everybody is sitting around sipping pink gins and has half a million or several million pounds in the bank.
"We've got 30,000 hard working households on the Island."
You can hear more of that interview with Bernard Moffatt on Mandate, from 7.30 this morning.
