Island falls silent on Remembrance Day

Strand Street in Douglas came to a stand still this morning to remember those who died in the two world wars, and in conflicts since.

Many shops, including Boots, Marks and Spencer and Waterstones, closed their tills for two minutes, while shoppers in the street stood in silence.

Other businesses observing the silence included the Isle of Man Bank, Manx Telecom and Heritage Homes, as well as all the departments of the Manx government.

These shoppers explained why they believe Remembrance Day is importance (audio file attached):
